First lorry of Edward Clay and Son, Mungo Manufacturers in 1912

A picture from 1912 showing an early motorised wagon, which had just been bought by Edward Clay and Son, Mungo Manufacturers, Wesley Street, Ossett. This was the firm's first motorised vehicle and prior to this, local transport was mainly by horse and cart, although the railways were used to good effect for longer distances. The man on the left of the picture is Edward Clay's son, John Arthur Clay, then aged 42.
